Summary
- A new plan to build a multi-purpose district that will host a dedicated NBA Las Vegas team arena has emerged
- The company, Starr Vegas Development, has raised $6bn in funds so far and is pitching a $10bn project development
- There are two planned dedicated sports facilities, with one fully allocated as an NBA/WNBA arena
With an NBA Las Vegasteam all but a certainty now, there has still not been a decision on where to host the future franchise, following the league’s approval to expand the competition by two more teams.
NBA's upcoming Las Vegas team could have a brand-new home
However, this has not dissuaded entrepreneurial investors from pitching their plans, with the latest bid coming from Starr Vegas Development, which has put forward a plan to build a $10bn sports resort district, which will feature two major sports venues along with a sportsbook, and a casino. Starr Vegas Development is teaming up with Lary Canerilli and Krusrow K. Roohani, some of the largest landowners in Clark County, with whom they will be developing the upcoming project. The project will be developed on 63 acres near West Star Avenue and South Las Vegas Boulevard, and the project was revealed earlier this week, with CEO Chuck Haifley highlighting the project as the type of forward-thinking design that will accommodate Las Vegas’ mounting appetite for quality sports experiences. Starr Vegas will redefine what a sports and entertainment destination should be. Our prime Strip location, integrated broadcast infrastructure, and multi-venue synergies create unmatched opportunities. We are building world-class facilities for soccer, basketball, concerts, combat sports, and more, the future home of professional sports in Las Vegas, Haifley added.
Detailed and well thought-through concept
The development’s initial plans foresee a 50,000-seat soccer and concert stadium, which could be converted into a 60,000 seater if the need arises. The development is not a mere proposal; it is already backed by funding, with $6bn already secured towards the $10bn goal, and is currently escrowing. Apart from the soccer stadium, Starr Vegas Development is also proposing a venue that will host the NBA and WNBA events itself, along with other sports, such as hockey, boxing, and combat sports. The indoor 25,000-seat facility will also feature the option to expand to 30,000 seats and host concerts, and has a quick-turn configuration to accommodate up to 12,500-seat events on short notice.
