Many young adults and even children wish for a career in esports, one that encompasses playing their favorite game, while making a living. Thanks to an upcoming change to Thailand’s educational system, students across the country may be among the first to experience esports in a brand-new way.

The initial phase includes esports school clubs

The Thai government plans to make a major reform to its education system, effectively integrating esports into the school curriculum. A phased approach is going to be used for the successful integration of esports with the ultimate goal of creating new career opportunities, developing skills and enabling Thailand to gain a share of the multi-billion-dollar esports industry. Notably, the education reform features an initial phase that involves the introduction of esports clubs in schools across the country. Those clubs are going to be called To be number one and are going to a designated space for students where they can develop a range of analytical and technological skills, learn how to better manage their own time and build abilities necessary for teamwork and leadership. Combining learning and gaming, the new esports clubs will enable students to compete in local, national and even international esports tournaments, unlocking further growth opportunities.

Overhauling education is a strategic move

Capt. Dr. Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, who was recently quoted by Thai PBS World, confirmed the Ministry of Education’s plan to implement esports into the country’s education system. She explained that the government views esports not only as an entertainment activity. Instead, it is recognized as a high-value creative industry capable of generating substantial income and creating sustainable career paths for Thai youth, Capt. Dr. Thongsaluaykorn explained. Moreover, she pointed out: The move represents a new paradigm for Thai education, tangibly linking digital literacy, creativity, and the future economy. The decision of the Thai government to overhaul the country’s education system with the implementation of esports signals a forward-thinking approach. While creativity and learning remain an inseparable part of that process, undoubtedly, esports will create new opportunities for young adults.
